New Look!

Deucenet has a new look! Hooray! Let me know what you think.

Deucenet has also had many other major upgrades today, such as an updated version of WordPress, an updated MySQL database, and vastly improved spam comment filters. I also fixed a bug that kept my custom 404 page from loading correctly, and set the background as fixed. And lastly, I made it so the individual columns are set as a percentage of the window width (they used to be a set number of pixels). This will cause the columns to scale accordingly as you resize your browser window. Again, let me know what you think of the changes!

Edit: Ok, I just put in something else. You can now sign up for a deucenet.com account using the link in the sidebar to the right. This will allow you to not have to fill in all of your information every time you post a comment. Also, if you’re good, I might even promote you to be able write new posts! Wow!

Another Edit: After much massaging of the code, I have made Deucenet “Widget Aware” as those at Wordpress are calling it.  This means that the sidebar you see to the right is dynamic, and I can drop widgets in and out easily.  It’s very exciting.  I now have real time stats over there, showing how many people are currently looking at this website, what the last 5 search terms were that found a hit on this site (from Google, Yahoo, etc.).  Ok, I swear this is the last edit to this post.

Violent Video Games

So here’s a presentation by the state of NY on violent video games and how bad they are for children:

It is quite possibly the worst presentation on this topic that I have ever seen. While I agree that children should not play certain games and that parents should definitely monitor their children’s video gameing, this goes a bit too far. For some reason it blames the Virginia Tech shootings on the game Counter Strike. While these shootings were very tragic, blaming it on a video game is asinine. Kinda like back in the day when the Columbine high school shootings were being blamed on the music that the kids listened to (among other things). Don”t you people think there’s more to it than that? I play Counter Strike along with some other violent video games. Have I ever gone on a violent rampage? No. Granted I’m 23 and can separate reality from video games, but still. Also, my tastes in music include metal and other such genres that are considered “violent”. Have I ever beat anyone up because a song told me to? No. Again, I agree that young children should not be playing certain video games, but come on State of NY! Try harder next time you make a presentation on this topic and it might actually be effective in stopping children from playing these games instead of just giving me a laugh.

The PDF version is even worse. It is full of typos and other hilarity: (Yes, I know deucenet is full of typos as well, but it’s not an official government thing, so it’s ok :) )

Eddie Van Halen girlfriend: “Pool is buried in mud”

I don’t know why, but I find this article amusing. The fact that it actually made the cnn.com homepage makes it even funnier.

Neat Squeeze Dispenser?!

I refuse to brush my teeth with anything other than Sparkle Fun Flavor.
