Song: Reprieve

Two songs in two days… I spent a bit more time on this one than I did on the one from yesterday, and I think it shows. This song, called “Reprieve” (thanks to The Lovable Nicky for help with the name), finishes up my musical trilogy project. What I intend is for the listener to start with “Lost”, then listen to “and Searching” and finish it up with “Reprieve”. For all of my fans out there, you might notice of some of my older songs (New Frankin Wisconsin and Turkey’s Not Murkey) have found their way into this one. I did however alter them slightly to keep things lively. I hope you’ve enjoyed my music so far!

If you feel like downloading the entire trilogy at once, I’ve spliced the three files for your convenience.

Song: and Searching

This one was thrown together a bit quicker than the last one, but here it is.

Am I Online?

Now you can tell when I’m signed on to AIM by looking underneath the picture of me in the sidebar. A colorful little guy means I’m signed on, while a more drab looking grayish little guy means that I’m not online.

Song: Lost

One reason I started this blog was to have a way to share some of the music I write with the world. I just finished recording a song I call Lost. You’ll have to forgive the less than stellar quality of the recording, I don’t have a very good way to record guitar onto my computer. Let me know what you think.

Dual Monitors

Earlier today I set up both of my monitors on my computer running out of my ATI Radeon 9600XT AGP video card (one DVI and one VGA). I must say that having the secondary monitor is great. Even though it’s smaller and doesn’t have as big of a resolution as my primary monitor, I’m finding it very useful. Currently I use it to store my Gaim and Winamp windows. This allows me to still watch movies or TV (via my ATI TV-Wonder PCI card) on my primary monitor in full screen and still be able to chat with friends over Gaim. Overall, I give a dual monitor setup 5/5 stars.

Here’s a picture of my current setup.

Metroid Metal

If you’ve ever played the Metroid games for Nintendo or Super Nintendo, then you know how much the music in them rocks! A while back I discovered Metroid Metal, a website that has remixed versions of all your favorite songs. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Open Source

Lately I’ve been becoming a big proponent of open-source software. From the Wikipedia, “Open source means when sources of information, code, pictures, maps, authors, and everything related are all publicly viewable and openly modifiable.”

A main advantage of having everything publicly viewable is that the software is free. Secondly, with everything openly modifiable, many improvements and extra functionality (commonly refered to as extensions) are easily added into the programs.

Don’t feel like paying 150 bucks for Microsoft Office? Download Open Office, a program that is very similar in both looks and functionality to the Microsoft version. Fed up with AIM getting more and more asthetically displeasing as new versions are released? Try out Gaim (which I myself prefer greatly over AIM). Don’t like the Microsoft programs for internet browsing or accessing your inbox? Head on over to the Mozilla website.

As you can see, I definitly like the open source idea. It opens many doors for new and inovative software designs. Take a look at SourceForge if you want to check out many different open source projects.

My DVI Dilemma

I got a new monitor yesterday that has a DVI input on it. However, it only came with a VGA cable. Earlier today I went out to circuit city to pick up a DVI cable. The only one they had in the store was priced at $99.99. I wasn’t about to pay that so I came home and looked up DVI cable prices online. I found one for 20 bucks. Can anyone explain this discrepency in price? It confuses me.

Digital Video Interface… more like Does Vitiate Income! Wow, I crack myself up.
